My Tatting Adventure with Four Shuttles

Here begins my story for the last month.Yes! I have been working on this for one month !! :)
It started with me seeing a very pretty bridal lace cuff on etsy and wanting to tat it. I started with figuring out how I can tat something like that and here goes my first attempt.

I know not very pretty!:D
At this point I realized tatting this pattern with two shuttles are impossible and I have to make it with four shuttles. I have been wanting to order new shuttles for a while and this was the incident that made me do so as all my other shuttles were full. Here goes the second phase of my adventure: waiting for new shuttles. Finally they came.

These are clover shuttles bought from Ebay. I love them and recommend them to everyone. better than all my shuttles. Now that everything was ready I started tatting and tatting...very pleased with the result I must say :)

Tatted butterfly

I have been tatting the most elaborate and beautiful tatted butterfly I have seen so far. It is done in only one shuttle and is pretty easy yet pretty. The pattern and instructions are posted here.

Its good to use up the threads that are left on your shuttles...I will make more with my left over threads over the time...love this butterfly!

Five Petal Pendant

For the last week I was working on a pendant from Yarnplayer's Up and Tat'Em book. This is the very first pattern in the book which I told you I skipped it cause I couldn't figure out how I should do it according to her instructions.

Then I came back to it determined to tat it! This pattern has a self closing mock ring which I had no idea what it is. Fortunately I found a very useful video on YouTube that demonstrated this technique ...Here is the vedio for those of you who might be new to this:

and the rest went smoothly according to instructions. I have not yet chosen a chain/ band for it. I think it makes a very beautiful pendant. Would like to tat different colors of this later.

perfect needs practice

The start of making tatted jewellery proved not be easy for me at all!
I started with the book on one side and all the shuttles and beads and threads and all the other good stuff on the other side and I got stuck right at the start :(
Finding the pattern complex for my novice hands I skipped that one and continued with the second pattern in the book. after several times of doing and un-doing I finally managed to finish one earning with some errors and missing beads...
even if you have never seen how beautiful the original tatting by Yarnplayer looks you could still tell this one is not a success...
Nevertheless I still got to finish it somehow which is the only acheivement I got with this pattern !
But hey I'm not a give up...I will start a second, a third and as much more needed to finally get  a good pair!

I want to make jewellery

Remember my frustration from the BIG motif I have taken for my last challenge? Well that made me think I want to switch to smaller patterns and I thought about trying out tatting jewelry. As I have no expertise or the smallest experience in that matter I thought I should start by a good book and here is what came by mail after considering my choices :

Thanks yarnplayer this looks like a very lovely book. I haven't started yet but hey keep an eye on my progress :)

That's not all I did for two weeks. In the meanwhile I tatted one of Jon's patterns called Rose Window which I had an eye on for a long time and wanted to tat it. As all Jon's patterns this one has a very clean and well-drawn pattern as well as written instructions to follow. Its a very fun motif to tat with three rounds.

I tatted a Star in Clovers

I finally got to finish what I have been working on for so long...I really liked the design but it took me a long time to tat it since it has the most number of stitches I have had to tat for one project ! It is by far the biggest motif I have tatted so I guess its a milestone in my tatting adventures..

It is a design by Jon and you can see the original version along with the pattern here. I am happy with the result but I guess I will be more careful when choosing big patterns like this cause you end up tatting and tatting and it never ends :P ...heh I know what you think...I get bored easily.

Anyhow I am happy I finished the project without leaving it lying there forever :)  So I am happily searching for my next challenge.

A rather new start...

You know...it was a cloudy day...it must have been...and I must have been bored of all the work, and all the unread items in my Google reader that never end and all the 'nothing new'ness in the air and around me; that I found this. It was different from any piece of art or craft that I have ever done. So, I just liked it and I saved it and I thought maybe one day....you know...one of those 'maybe one days'...

well, that one day happened lot sooner that I can imagine. I thought of a pattern, designed the patches and built it..even easier that I could imagine...and now its sitting there on my wall and every time I look at it I think about how much I enjoy(ed) it and I think 'am I an artist ? you know..a real one !!' and I answer me 'Hey, why on earth does it matter? you built this, and that is all and that is all that should be about it.'

my patchwork

Hello all ! I'm back after a long time traveling and then getting back to life !
I did miss tatting a lot while I was away from it and I started my new project right after I got back :)

the pattern is called patchwork and I found it here on sue's blog.
I tried more than 10 pictures to get it right on the camera and this is as best as I could get. taking pictures of my work still remains a big challenge for me. Nevertheless, I like the pattern a lot as it is kinda square and unique.
So....I'm back to tatting again !! :)

My Heart's Desire

After my failure which you can see in my previous post I was determined to get it right !! and finally my heart's desire is fullfilled ;)
It is a very pretty pattern and so much fun to tat cause after you finish half of it you will have to repeat whatever you did BUT in the reverse order ! give it a try :)

I have just realize http://www.georgiaseitz.com/ is an online tatting class which i can receive tatting lessons by mail !! wow its amazing I didn't know it. is anyone out there member of this group ?

and my broken heart...

The story of my broken heart started with me seeing this pretty tatting and falling in love with it. So I found the pattern here and chose a new thread which I have not tatted anything with yet; and the excitement began....

BUT

not soon enough I realized I have gone wrong :( Now I am left with a broken heart.
I cant mend this broken heart but I will make a new one soon. :)

tatted necklace

I finally finished a necklace I have started long time ago. I really liked it but cause I had to repeat the same pattern over and over I quickly got bored and put it aside. Today, finally I am done ! :) It sits beautifully on the neck and the pattern is so easy. everything is 3 double stitches apart.

Spring Doily ~ 2

I have been up to tatting a very pretty doily pretty from Vinnie's tattings.  I actually saw the pattern at TATSKOOL first. I fell in love with all those amazing colors she has used. Oh and I was puzzled as where to start and how should I continue which the instructions and numbers on TATSKOOL walked me through it successfully :) here is my version in Vineyard Harvest Lizabeth thread.

I am thinking of starching my tatting. I still have to do some research on how to do it and what to use for the starch.

Thank you all for you beautiful comments and encouragements.

bEAUTIFUL sNOWFLKE

I have been working on yet another snowflake from Laura's tatting muse.

I spent a lot of time taking many pictures but in the end I still can not figure out how to take a neat picture in which all stitches are vividly visible! I see very beautiful and clear pictures of all your tattings and I would be very thankful if you could teach me the trick :)

Over all I'm happy with the results and I am yet up to another motif ! so stay tuned and update me with your beautiful tattings :)
